Never Forgetting A Moment

It’s me, Mom, your daughter, one of the twins,

It seems I’m older and we’re more like friends.

I’ve been waiting a long time to just let this go,

There are things on my mind, some you might know,

How much I love you and how much I care,

But, Mom, my love for you was not always there.

My loyalty for you was sometimes mistaken,

Replaced by abuse and the drugs I was taking.

I can’t take back, Mom, what I’ve said or I’ve done.

If given a choice, I suppose there is one.

The thing I would change is the way I loved you,

I would love you with honor; I would love you with truth.

Unconditional, unreserved, with all of my heart,

I would turn back the pages and make a new start.

I would call and tell you or just say hello,

Never forgetting a moment to just let you know.

Your love for me, I did not understand it,

Your life for me, may not be how you planned It,

But there are some things, Mom, I remember a lot,

As much as you could, you stood by me and taught.

You showed me how love could be spread real thin.

And you did what you could to hold on and win.

You did the best, Mom, with the cards that you played,

When life gave you lemons, you made lemonade.

Mom, the past is over, my new life has begun,

Mom, please forgive me, for all that I’ve done.

I am sorry you worried, I am sorry you hurt.

I just want the chance, Mom, to take back the dirt.

Replace all the bad times, and fill them with good.

New beginnings, new memories, I know that we could.

Unconditional, unreserved, with all my heart,

We could make some new pages, make a new start,

It’s me, Mom, your daughter, the one who loves you,

Only this time with honor, and this time with truth.

Happy Mother’s Day 2006
